Google it and youll get a million hits, but basicaly you request the forms from the ATF, fill them out (tons of help in a google search, but they arent complicated) and send them in with whatever fee (usualy pretty small. Sub 50$ iirc) and wait...and wait....and wait..... Thats the short version of it. EDIT: This MAY help: http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting...fl03/index.asp Keep in mind, this is not a license to DEAL in guns. It isnt for buying and selling as a business or for profit. It is for collecting. Selling a few is ok, selling a few a month will get you some scrutiny from our lovley over-lords at the ATF. If you want to deal, go for the 01 FFL, they arent all that much money, just a few more hoops to jump through is all. Not difficult. |

It will cost you some money to get it the first time. After that, $30 for every three years. Every time I make an order from Midway, or Grafs, or Brownells, I save money. Sometimes quite a lot of money. I enjoyed buying a bunch of C&R firearms the first few years after I got the license but now I keep it just to retain dealer pricing. WAY too good a deal to let go of!! Gregg |
Re: C&R License
Tuls is right. If you buy more than a couple C and R guns a year, especialy on-line where the good deals are, youll save a significant amount of money on transfers.
I looked into getting one myself and jsut never got aorund to sending the paper work in. I dont buy any C&R guns really, so its a moot point for me, but I know people that do and they easily save 10x what they spent on the license not paying transfer fees from online or out of state purchases. |

Re: C&R License
I'll echo tuls and Heimdhal's recommendation. Absolutely painless, and the process took a lot less time than I expected. Kicking myself for not doing it sooner. My first order from Midway covered my license cost.
And as TA mentioned, there's nothing quite like getting that package of three SKSs delivered right to your front door.... |
Re: C&R License
The C&R covers much more than military surplus firearms as well, basically any firearm that is 50 years old qualifies. There is a huge list available from the ATF of firearms the are C&R as well. Remington 870's can qualify now depending on DOM, many sporting rifles, handguns, etc.

F that!
I let mine expire.
When you hold a C & R you effectively waive your Fourth Amendment rights. BATFE can call you up and announce they're coming into your home to inspect your firearms, bound book, etc. Alternatively, you can opt to go to their office and see them, but again you have to take all paperwork and your entire collection for their audit and review. 24 hours' notice is all they're required to give you and saying "no" or "go get a warrant" is not an option: you WILL comply. No thank you, I'll pass. |
